This week, we’re showing our #CPSDPride by giving
a #SuperSchoolShoutout to Evergreen Elementary School librarian Kathy Chapman
and third grader Aliana Faulks.
Kathy is a proud K-12 CPSD alumna and has been a
CPSD educator for 34 years. “I have taught on base all 34 years and have a
connection with these kids,” she said. “The librarian role is perfect for me
because I love books, reading aloud to kids and seeing their excitement,” she
said.
This is
Kathy’s second year as the librarian, and the role has exceeded her
expectations. “I came into this job with an open mind and have been learning by
doing,” she said. “I’m thrilled to share the joy of reading with students and am
trying to expose them to different genres so they can discover what they enjoy.”
To ensure
all students are engaged, Kathy holds an annual book exchange, supports
research projects and participates in the Washington Library Association’s Children’s
Choice Picture Book Awards. “I know every student by name and am passionate
about giving them an impactful learning experience,” she said.

Aliana has attended Evergreen since
kindergarten and loves her school. “My little brother goes here, and I have a
lot of friends in my class,” she said. “I’ve also liked all my teachers here
because they make everyone feel welcome.”
Third grade has been a blast for Aliana who loves science.
“This year, we’ve gotten to learn more about animals by doing animal reports
where you learn facts about an animal’s anatomy, range, habitat and other
interesting things,” she said. “I did mine on the Fennec fox.”
Aliana is proud of her reputation for being helpful. Her
fellow students know they can reach out to her with questions about classwork
or advice, and she is always eager to support them. “When I’m older I want to keep
helping people by becoming a police officer,” she said. “I’m inspired by my
aunt who is a cop and saves lives.”
