We are excited to offer FREE summer school from June 26 to July 21.

Students from Evergreen, Hillside and Carter Lake elementary schools will attend summer school at Evergreen Elementary School (9020 Blaine Ave., JBLM Lewis Main).

Class placement will be based on the order in which we receive electronic applications. In the event summer school enrollment fills up, students will be placed on a waiting list. Your student’s enrollment must be confirmed to attend.

We will communicate with you in late April or early May about the class your child has been enrolled in.

K-1 Early Literacy & Numeracy

Students will engage in early literacy and numeracy learning experiences that foster language development and conceptual/skill readiness through collaborative synthesis, kinesthetic and tactile explorations.

2nd Grade Literacy & Math Boost

2nd grade

Students will hone and extend secondgrade mathematical concepts and literacy skills through content integration. The class will engage with learningexperiences tailoredto promote listening, reading,speakingand writing the language of math.

Math Enrichment

5thgrade

Each day students will review a key fifthgrade math skill and be introduced to new sixthgrade math concepts.Students will even get a head start in the sixth-grade math book and may become eligible for the sixthgrade honors math program.

Power Scholars

2-5

Power Scholars is a six-week summer boost involving reading, math and enrichment activities.This extended summer class is from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

STEM Camp

Science

K-5

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The STEM Camp isa great placeto experience fun, hands-on science during the summer to encourage year-round learning.

The Storytime Channel

1-2 (PBL Literacy)

Students build their reading fluency and comprehension skills as they create engaging video productions of fables and folktales from diverse cultures.

The Art of Shapes

 

Math

1-2

Students learn about the different geometric shapes in the world around them. They keep an artist’s sketchbook to drawthe shapesand their appearance.

ELA and Math

2-3

Students work together to create a guide of important places in the community. After creating a class map of the community, students create maps that show a different feature, as well as a brief description and study illustration, of their favorite places.

Mysteries, Solved!

 

ELA

3-5

Students workto read and analyze mystery stories. The class creates a list of elements of good mysteries and then works in teams to write mystery stories that incorporate these elements.

Community Photojournalist

ELA

3-5

Studentsidentifythemes and topics related to their communities, interview local community members and take photosto develop a photo essay that visually tells local cultural and social stories.

Play at Your School

We are excited to continue our partnership with Tacoma Arts Live to bring students the opportunity toparticipatein a summer school play led by professional teaching artists. Students will learn about acting and performing, culminating in a play performance for their families.
